Nineteen Eighty-Four, Part Three, Chapter 3
WHO IS ROBERT BELVEDERE? The name Robert Belvedere is a nom
de plume I have adopted for the following reason:
I am currently employed by one of the state governments in the
Northeast. My current superiors have been very kind to me and have never asked me to take any actions that violate
my conservative principles. I have been fortunate to work for a part of the government that is actually doing its best
to uphold a right found in both the state and federal constitutions. My main superior is a Leftist and, for the reasons
mentioned above and in order not to embarrass this person, I have decided, in the tradition of the Founders, to adopt
a false name when publishing here.
The following list should give you an idea where I'm coming from...
PHILOSOPHY: I like to describe myself as an 18th Century conservative. I am not an ideologue
and, therefore, do not subscribe to any 'ist' or 'ism'. I want to be left alone. I believe the Federal Government
should not be allowed to take any actions not permitted by The Constitution. State and local governments should, likewise,
be bound by their constitutions and charters. Life is absurd. Any man who does not have at least one vice should
not be trusted. The 17th Amendment should be repealed [and possibly the 19th]. Thomas Jefferson was a blackguard.
MOST INFLUENTIAL THINKERS: Russell Kirk, Ayn Rand, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, John Adams, George
Orwell. RELIGION: I am a fallen Catholic
who believes that the Catholic Church has been, and still is, a force for good in the world.

Calvary; his brothers and father served in the Confederate Army. I have been involved in the music business as a composer, musician, and producer. I have always fancied
that there is a great writer within me waiting to burst forth. This remains to be seen. As Evelyn Waugh wrote
of Kipling, so it applies to me: He was a conservative in the sense that he believed civilization to be something laboriously
achieved which was only precariously defended. He wanted to see the defences fully manned and he hated the liberals because
he thought them gullible and feeble, believing in the easy perfectibility of man and ready to abandon the work of centuries
for sentimental qualms. 1

I am a Renaissance Man striving to be A Man For All Seasons.
I am currently
at work on a projected multi-volume, unauthorized autobiography [Make Then Think You're Stupid... (...And They'll
Leave You Alone)].

THE CAMP OF THE SAINTS? The title is taken from a biblical
passage in the Book of Revelation, 20:7-9:
"...Satan shall be loosed out
of his prison and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth...to gather them together
to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and encompassed
the Camp of the Saints...and the Beloved City: and the fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them...."
I first heard of the phrase as the title of a book of
the same name by Jean Raspail. Ferociously denounced by the Left, it is the story of how the West would react if boatloads
of the poor from the Third World suddenly decided to come to the lands of milk and honey. The West, having lost the
will to preserve all that made it great, lets itself be overrun. One of the many stories woven in the narrative concerns
a small, but determined group that decides to resist the invasion. They know full well that they will suffer death,
but with the courage and good humour that made the West great, they fight. While Raspail may have intended the title
to refer to the whole of once was called Christendom being overrun by the barbarian non-Westerners, I always think of
that small group as the true Camp Of The Saints: Those of us who are resisting the decline of the West, who are doing
what they can to preserve, protect, and defend it—its traditions, ideas, and culture—are the inhabitants of The
Camp Of The Saints and The Beloved City. We may not triumph, but we must resist the forces, within and without, that
seek to destroy what is the glory of this world.
